We have a date and a venue!!

So, as of Saturday, we officially have a location for the wedding & reception! We decided since most of our guests will be coming from out of town, it would be fair to them (and much easier for us too) to have as many of the events as close to each other as possible. The date is October 23, 2010 at The Grand Opera House in St. Charles, MO. I only have a couple pictures right now, but I will have more very soon.

The Grand Opera House is an old opera house from the late 1800s that was just recently renovated into a banquet center. We felt like it will give us the most flexibility with what we want to do. It's a really cool space and we are really excited to get working it!

As of now, the plan will be to have the wedding around 3pm and after the ceremony, everyone will be asked to walk just down the street (literally about half a block) to Quintessential (I'll refer to it as "Club Q" from now on) for a cocktail hour. This will give the staff of the Grand Opera House and the wedding planner to get the space ready for the reception. After about an hour or so at Club Q, everyone will head back down to the Grand Opera House for the reception and dinner. As of now, we're thinking the reception will start around 5pm and will end somewhere in between 10pm and 11pm.

Other than that, we have a meeting with a wedding planner on Friday and are continuing to look at photographers and videographers. Now that we have the date and the location, I'm sure I'll be updating this blog much more often now since all the other pieces should start falling into place!

Take care!

Our first day looking for ceremony/reception venues

So today, we checked out a couple of places for the wedding/reception. We've pretty much decided that we're set on an October wedding and we think we'd like to have the reception and wedding in the same location. Since most of you will be coming from out of town, we figure that it would be easiest for all involved to make it as convenient as possible.

So the first location we looked at is called the 9th Street Abbey in Soulard. It's an old church that's about 150 years old where they hold both weddings and reception in the same room. We like it, but not sure if it "wowed" us. We like the fact that's it's more of a church setting for the ceremony though.

The second place we went to was called Point of View and we were instantly impressed! It's on the 30th floor of the Laclede Gas Building in downtown St. Louis. It basically has a 360 degree view of the city. We absolutely love it! The main downfall though, is that it has kind of a conference center feel. It has potential to be a great location, but would take a lot of work on our part.

Let us know what you think. Feel free to leave comments because we really are interested in what everyone thinks!
